In 1994 John Duff Lowe (yes, that's his real name!) who played piano for the Quarrymen in 1958 realised a lifetime ambition of releasing a CD under the name of "The Quarrymen - Open for Engagements".
John played piano on the first ever disc cut by the Quarrymen, "In spite of all the danger" and "That'll be the day" which were made at Percy Phillip's Studio in Islington in Liverpool. The other band members on that historic day were Colin Hanton on drums, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison!
For the CD John, who now plays keyboards, got together with Rod Davis from the 1957 Quarrymen, singer/guitarist John Ozoroff, singer/percussionist Charles Hart and bassist Richie Gould and recorded fifteen tracks, some of which were from the 1950's Quarrymen rock 'n' roll repertoire such as "Dizzy Miss Lizzy", "Come go with me" - the song that John Lennon was singing when Paul McCartney first saw the band, (only this time with the correct words), "Tryin' to get to you", said by some to be the inspiration for McCartney's "In spite of all the danger", and half a dozen or so new compositions from Lowe and Ozoroff, some of which sound very Beatle-ish!
